The American funeral home exists as a hybrid space, a space that transgresses common notions of distinct categorizations and order. These categories are disintegrated within the space of the funeral home and begin to merge and/or become reversed. This project is an investigation of the contemporary American funeral home; of the ordinary and inherent contradictory notions of the ordinary, resulting in a collaboration by scholars, engineers, and artists, coming together to produce works for the purpose of helping the nation practice for death, an activity vital to its self-esteem.
